This is a post about FOUNTAINS!

Sup Beloitophiles? This is Julia and Michelle reporting in to share a little more information about our SOI posse's obsession with fountains, as previously hinted at by Brandi in the office post. Our aim in this post is to provide you with a photographic tour of the fountains in our lives. Let us begin: Above: A fountain lovingly pictured with Manchester the Tomato Plant on Michelle's fridge. Next week, the fountain will be relocating to the Gold Key Office in Middle College.
Until then, we will bask in its fiberoptic glow.
The next fountain on our tour resides in the living room of the French House (one of 16 special interest houses on campus and our summer casa). It looked pretty gross and malfunctioning when we found it, but Michelle's initial disappointment was overcome by what we found hiding inside.
This photo depicts Julia using her psychic powers to locate the source of the problem: an Easter egg lodged within the bowels of the machine. (Yes, there was still candy inside the egg. Yes, we ate it. Yes, it was very old and we regret this decision.)
The last fountain we would like to share with you can be found out by the truck stop near Colley Road. A shining example of Midwestern taste and architecture, this mammoth graces the front yard of a brave citizen who purchased real estate across from a pig farm. Mm mm bacon!
If you have any questions regarding these water features or the simple pleasure we found in taking pictures of fountains, IM us!

I'm not quie sure what to post here... but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what Scary Spice was thinking?
So even though I have been thinking about writing my first blog post for the last 24 hours, my summer brain has been slow to come up with any exciting and interesting topics for a first post. Oh, summer brain, I will feed you something academic soon. . . just as soon as I finish watching the entire season of 30 Rock as well as finish the 3rd season of The Office. . .

One exciting thing, though: tomorrow, the farmer's market, one of the greatest events to occur in Beloit, begins and I am beyond excited! I can barely contain myself, thinking about the fruit and apple bread and baby pies (pies that are miniature in size, NOT made out of babies) that will soon be sitting happily in my fridge :)

I'm new to this blog thing, so I'm not entirely sure how to end a post. Perhaps I need to devise some kind of snappy catchphrase. Suggestions will be welcomed. Soooo, I guess, until next time . . .

Fun in Wisconsin

So...living in Wisconsin for the summer...sounds like a blast, right? Well, you might not believe it but since I'm from Iowa, the Beloit area is actually a pretty entertaining place compared to the dear old hometown. Reasons why I'm excited about being here include (but are not limited to...) 1) Indian food dinners!! I really respect people who can cook (since, as my boyfriend can attest, I literally messed up a box of Kraft Mac'n'Cheese last night) and especially people like my friend Julia who can whip up some delicious paneer and curry. 2) Riverfest on the shores of the Rock River in Beloit...the lineup this summer looks positively amazing: Steppenwolf, BLUE öYSTER CULT!!, and Cheap Trick--to name a few. Styx was here last summer, but since I'd already had the pleasure of hearing "Lady" in concert, I decided to forego shelling out the cash for a ticket and was content with just listening to the distant strains from my porch. This summer, however, I'm definitely dishing out since the Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper" is certainly in my top five song favorites. 3) THE BUNNY. My friend Hannah is allowing me to babysit her bunny "Mr. Z" for the summer (don't worry, I live off-campus for the time being so it's totally legal) and he's really really cute and likes to run around the living room and play, and he's even getting used to being petted all the time which is awesome because he's SO SOFT and delightful.

I'm sure more reasons will come up as the days tick by--unfortunately, my blogging time is almost up for the day!! Yay for summer.

Mmm... My Office

So during the school year I also work in Admissions, but instead I an a Gold Key Ambassadors Coordinator. I know it sounds cool, and it is... but you wouldn't know that by looking at our office. It was an ugly beige color that seemed to be everywhere. One of the desks was ugly (and still is) and one of the chairs has a wheel that doesn't work. It was quite something. See for yourself.

Well... last week and this week I began to paint it. And BOY! does it look nice. The desk and chair are still around, but that doesn't matter now that the office itself is better. I don't have a picture yet of the finished project yet, because I am still putting up some finishing touches. But I feel like it is finally a place where I can concentrate on working and not of the aesthetics of the room. That's why is pays and sucks to be an art major. Ha ha.

Oh, and Michelle, one of my two co-workers during the year (who is working with me this summer), found a water fountain thing at her house and I think it would be pretty funny if we put it in the office to make it even more of a relaxing area. I tell you, we probably won't get any work done.
